Former Beer Factory of Miano

Designed by architect Luigi Racheli on the basis of the models produced at the beginning of the 1950s by Harley - Ellington & Day Associates (Detroit), the former beer factory plant is the symbol of the 'enlightened' industrial architecture (rationalization of spaces in favour of production but also attention to the environ- mental impact of the work).

Former Beer Factory of Miano

An area of a total surface of one square kilometre in the Northern part of Naples, a buffer between the Capodimonte park and the district of Secondigliano. The closing of the plant and its subsequent dismantling date back to 2004. Emptied from its machineries and silos for the production of beer, a space full of previously hidden architectonic details comes to light. Inside parts of this area, the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia will carry out two settings for programmes and performances that in some cases will use the same nature of the place. Different by definition from the classic theatre, it takes advantage of lights filtering through large windows of a lamellate ceiling. Area 1 is made of a 20m large by 23m thick terrace gallery and a stage equipped with a 34m large and 18m thick wooden platform. It will be able to host 500 spectators. Area 2 is made of a 19m large by 16m thick gallery for a total of 16 rows of seats divided in different sectors. Full capacity is of approximately 400 spectators. The stage area measures 19m on each side. Area 3, which was previously used as location for unloading goods, now offers a vast open space in which a steel tensile structure supports a tinplate roof: this location will be used during the festival as the foyer. A site that allows a glimpse of the post-industrial landscape surrounding it, now turned into an appealing set design by the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia.
